Gasgoo.com (Shanghai February 29) - The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology announced that it will open test centers for methanol fuel in Shanghai and the provinces of Shanxi and Shaanxi, Xinhua reported today. The MIIT emphasized that work done at the centers will adhere to the highest safety standards. The centers will are expected to be ready to service vehicles in two to three years time.

The test centers will help the country determine key standards for methanol fuel in China. It will provide a testing bed for construction and management standards for new infrastructure as the country continues to conduct R&D work regarding the industry for methanol fuel.

According to the team responsible for the project, methanol is an becoming increasingly important power source in the country. According to the current research, there is no large obstacle preventing methanol from replacing traditional gasoline. The emissions savings caused from such a switch are very large, with methanol emissions being comparable to those of diesel fuel. With proper care methanol fuel is not harmful to humans. Alongside diesel, methanol is one of the major solutions to leaning China off traditional gasoline.
