Gasgoo.com (Shanghai March 21) - Zhengzhou Nissan's new proposed production site has gained official government approval, Economic Observer News reported today. The site will be Zhengzhou Nissan's third, and will be located close to the joint venture's Zhongmu factory in Zhengzhou, Henan. The JV has yet to confirm the site's production capability as well as what models it will manufacture. "As of yet there is no clear statement on the factory's application," a source from the JV said, adding that the decision is in the hands of the shareholders.
Additionally, the JV's current factory in Zhongmu County is still undergoing expansion, which is scheduled to be completed next year. The expansion will increase the site's production capability from 100,000 vehicles to 180,000 vehicles.
According to Guo Zhenfu, Dongfeng Motor Deputy General Manager and Zhengzhou Nissan General Manager, the Zhengzhou Nissan joint venture will continue to aid development of the Nissan and Dongfeng brands. In a post on his Weibo account, Mr. Guo said that the two brands will maximize their interests by making the best use of their resources.
Nissan hopes that in two years time that the Zhengzhou Nissan joint venture will become a global export center for the manufacturer's models. According to Public Relations Manager Huo Jing, the JV's export business currently revolves around exporting Dongfeng brand vehicles to overseas markets, including Russia, India and Angola. The JV currently boasts an export volume of around 8,000 vehicles. If Zhengzhou Nissan can help do for Nissan exports what it has for Dongfeng ones, it will be of great assistance to the Japanese manufacturer's presence in the Asia-Pacific region
