The IT Industry Department of China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) has joined with State Administration of Radio, Film and Television's (SARFT) Department of Science and Technology to establish a joint working group to promote technology and applications involving China's self-developed Audio Video Coding Standard (AVS). The working group will focus on improving AVS technology, optimizing the standard, and revising relevant regulations, researching AVS-capable chipsets, encoders and terminals, and promoting industrial application of the technology in HD and 3D TV sets.
