It has been revealed that Huayi Brothers will increase its film output and make an effort to bolster its business in 2012.
According to a newly released annual report from Chinese giant Huayi Brothers Media Group, the company's total business income in 2011 dropped by 17% compared to last year's figures
Film industry insiders believe the reason for the decrease in revenue is due largely to the weak performance of its tent-pole film business.
In 2011, 8 films from Huayi Brothers were released with 930 million yuan in ticket sales. Among them, only three projects, "Beginning of the Great Revival," "Shaolin" and "If You are the One 2", garnered more than 100 million yuan.
Blockbusters screened in 2010, including "Aftershock," Detective Dee and the Mystery of the Phantom Flame" and "If You Are the One", raked in 125 million yuan with great ease.
This year, 7 blockbusters will be screened in four golden holiday slots in succession.
"The Viral Factor", which was released in January, bagged 120 million yuan. Romance film "LOVE" screened during the Valentines' Day slot also took in 120 million yuan. Fantasy film "Painted Skin 2" and famine-themed epic "1942" will be released for the summer holiday slots, followed by costume drama "Save General Yang" for the National Day holiday slot, action movie "Taichi 0" and adventure flick "CZ 12" for the New Year holiday slot.
