After Motorola Mobility joined China Unicom's CNY1,000 smartphone team, yesterday HTC in Beijing announced the first of a new series of lower-end smartphones designed specifically for China Unicom.
The new smartphone named New Desire V, with a 4.0-inch touchscreen, a 1 GHz processor, and Android 4.0 will be sold for a retail price of 1999 yuan on April 23, 2012, without an operator contract.
Lu Yimin, general manager of China Unicom said on the conference, "Up to now, China Unicom has shipped more than 10 versions of CNY1,000 smartphone with 3G brand of 'Wo' to the market, a totaled number of more than 11 million smartphone shipments."
Lu Yimin also said that as of March 2012, the top three WCDMA intelligent devices in mainland were belong to China Unicom, which means a great power to pull the company's 3G scale development.
