Gasgoo.com (Shanghai May 9) - Mitsubishi has set a target of 300,000 automobile sales in China for 2015, the Beijing Youth Daily reported today, citing a statement made by manufacturer President and Representative Director Osamu Masuko. "The Chinese market is increasingly becoming one of Mitsubishi Motors' most important worldwide," Mr. Masuko said, adding that the manufacturer "hopes to provide society and consumers with products that will satisfy their demands."
Mitsubishi's sales business in China is primarily focused on three fields: domestic automobiles, import automobiles and engines. Mr. Masuko pointed out the contributions Mitsubishi's Chinese partners Soueast and GAC Changfeng have made to its overall sales. According to Mr. Masuko, ever since Soueast began manufacturing the Lancer EX (pictured above) in 2009, China has remained the most popular market for the car worldwide.
In order to achieve its 2015 sales target, Mitsubishi needs to increase the rate of domestic automobile production. Two years ago Mitsubishi agreed to establish a new joint venture company with GAC Group. The new JV, which should be ready within the year, will begin manufacturing the ASX crossover (pictured below). Mr. Masuko confirmed that preparatory work is currently being done to ensure that plans for domestic production of the ASX will go smoothly. "After production of the ASX begins, the new joint venture will [continue to] successively release strategic Mitsubishi models," Mr. Masuko said.
Mr. Masuko also confirmed that the manufacturer is aiming at increasing its SUV lineup with its recently announced second production site. According to reports, the new Outlander will be sold in China as an imported model within the year.
