According to an informed industry source, among the major participants in China Mobile's (NYSE: CHL; 0941.HK) Q2 2012 TD-SCDMA handset tender, including Chinese telecom equipment and terminal manufacturers ZTE (0763.HK; 000063.SZ), Huawei, Yulong (Coolpad), Lenovo (0992.HK), T-Smart, and Hisense, only ZTE, T-Smart, and Hisense one bids. ZTE, T-Smart, and Hisense each won a bid for one handset model apiece. Wireless baseband chipset provider Spreadtrum's SC8810, a 1GHz TD-SCDMA Android platform, was reportedly the tender's biggest winner.
The Q2 2012 tender, by which China Mobile's terminal subsidiary sought to procure 6 mln TD-SCDMA handsets from a total of seven TD-SCDMA handset models, was launched in April 2012. Over a dozen venders participated in the bidding.
