Gasgoo.com (Shanghai June 4) - Shanghai GM sold a total of 110,503 Buicks, Chevys and Cadillacs in China last month, Gasgoo.com (Chinese) reported today, citing the joint venture's recently released performance review. The figure represents year-on-year growth of 14.9 percent for the JV.
Shanghai GM's sales from January to May totaled 555,280 units, setting a new record for the JV. Despite setbacks in April, year-on-year sales growth from the first five months was still positive.
Chevrolet was Shanghai GM's best performing brand in May, with a total of 56,938 units sold. The sales figure represents year-on-year growth of 35.7 percent for the brand. Monthly sales for the Cruze (pictured above) and New Sail totaled 18,977 and 18,773 units, respectively. Shanghai GM managed to sell 6,128 Captiva SUVs from January to May. As for new models, over 10,000 Malibus have been sold in the country since its debut in February. Shanghai GM will also begin taking Chinese orders for its Volt electric car this month.
Meanwhile, Buick sales in May totaled 51,360 units. The Excelle Kaiyue (pictured below) was one of the JV's top selling models, with 23,085 units sold in May. Monthly sales of the executive LaCrosse were 10,669 units, while combined monthly sales of XT and GT versions of the Excelle Yinglang totaled 11,985 units. Buick sales from January to May exceeded 120,000 units, making it the country's top selling brand.
Finally, a total of 2,205 Cadillacs were sold last month, 6.6 percent than the amount sold last May. The SRX luxury SUV remained a popular seller, with 1,754 units sold last month and over 9,000 sold since the beginning of the year.
