China-based vendor TCL Communication Technology Holdings shipped 43.6 million handsets in 2011, increasing 20.4% from 2010, according to a 2011 annual report released by the company.
Of the shipment volume in 2011, 1.4 million units were smartphones, all based Android, TCL Communication indicated.
In 2011, TCL posted revenues of HK$10.653 billion (US$1.37 billion) and net profit of HK$800 million, respectively growing by 22% and 14% from 2010, and gross margin of 22%.
In September 2011, TCL signed with Alcatel-Lucent to continue licensing the brand Alcatel for the sale of handsets, tablet PCs and mobile Internet-access devices over the next 13.5 years at a total licensing fee of US$40 million.
