Ability Enterprise, one of the top four makers of digital cameras in Taiwan, has kicked off expansion of production capacity at its subsidiary, Viewquest Technologies (China), which will expand monthly capacity from the current 800,000 digital cameras to one million units by the first half of 2007.
The expansion will add five SMT (surface mount technology) lines to the present 11, six IMC (intermetallic compound) lines to the current 17 and two digital camera assembly lines to the current 22, Tseng pointed out.
Viewquest Technologies, which is located in Dongguan, China, began production in June 2005. In addition to the expansion, the subsidiary will begin trial assembly of lens kits next month.
With larger-than-expected orders from major clients, Ability Enterprise is confident of attaining a 2006 shipment goal of 6.6 million digital cameras. The company may deliver an historical high of 700,000 digital cameras this month and may pursue challenging shipment goal of 10 million units for 2007, institutional investors in the local bourse pointed out.
