Wafer probe card and LED equipment maker MPI expects its revenues for the third quarter of 2011 to increase by 5-10% on quarter mainly because of booming demand for LED sorting, testing and packaging equipment from China, according to the company.
Shipments of wafer probe cards in the third quarter will rise or drop by up to 5% sequentially, averaging 250,000-280,000 probes a month, MPI indicated. Shipments of LED sorting, testing and packaging equipment in the second half of 2011 is expected to increase by 40-50% from the first half, MPI noted.
MPI is constructing a new factory with an investment of NT$300 million (US$10.3 million) to add production capacity for LED equipment as well we set up new capacity for probes specifically for use in 3D ICs and GPUs, with completion scheduled for early fourth-quarter 2011.
