Golden Hope Plantations Bhd has formalised a joint venture with two Chinese companies to produce chemicals used to make detergents.

The tie-up, to be called Guangzhou Keylink Chemical Co Ltd, will be based in Guangzhou, China, and it will sell the product in China and other global markets.

The new company is being set up together with its partners, namely Hong Kong-based Cognis Oleochemicals Ltd and China's Lonkey Industrial Co Ltd.

Golden Hope's participation is via its unit Golden Hope Overseas Capital (GHOC).

The new company will manufacture, distribute and sell methylester sulphonates (MES), an oleochemical derivate used in the production of detergent.

The collaboration is expected to further strengthen Golden Hope's biodiesel business by providing complementary revenue from the sale of C16 ME and to capitalize on the potential of MES as a replacement for linear alkybenzene sulphonate in the detergent industry.

The company also hopes to increase its presence in the downstream activities of the oleochemicals derivatives business.
