Chindex to provide health insurance in China

   Date:2006/12/31
Chindex International, a provider of health care products and services in China, and a partner will offer health insurance to Chinese nationals.

Bethesda-based Chindex claims that the PPO plan it will sell in conjunction with Fesco IB Insurance Brokerage is the first PPO available in China. The health care services division of Chindex, which operates the company's United Family Hospital network of private health care facilities, will initiate the new insurance product.

Fesco IB Insurance Brokerage is the insurance brokerage arm of Fesco, a Chinese company also known as Foreign Enterprise Service Corp. Chindex and Fesco IB will jointly market the product and initially offer it in Beijing and Shanghai.

The United Family Hospitals & Clinics network, with its five locations in Beijing and Shanghai, is the preferred medical service provider for the new PPO plan.

"We have been working hard to bring a health insurance product to the market, which would allow Chinese people easier access to our United Family Hospital facilities," says Chindex CEO and United Family Hospital Chairman Roberta Lipson in a statement. "This program with Fesco IB is the first step. We hope in the future to issue other products which will be accessible to an even broader segment of the population in China."
