Handset component makers, including Silitech Technology, Merry Electronics and Ichia Technologies, have been making efforts to shift from the supply chain of Nokia to those of HTC and China-based vendors because Nokia's smartphone global market share is decreasing, according to industry sources.
Silitech has successfully entered the smartphone supply chain of ZTE, the sources indicated. ZTE will launch more than 30 smartphones and expects to ship 12 million units in the second half of 2011, the sources said. In addition to ZTE, Huawei Device and Lenovo have offered low-cost models priced at US$100-150 which have generated increasing demand, the sources noted.
For Taiwan-based component makers, the supply chains of Apple, Samsung Electronics and LG Electronics are too closed to cut into, while those of China-based vendors are relatively open, the sources said.
