Qualcomm has secured orders for baseband chips from Nokia and Samsung Electronics for their upcoming Windows Phone (Mango)-based smartphones with shipments kicking off in September, according to industry sources.

Qualcomm has initially used its 'wafer bank' built up previously and therefore, supply chain partners including Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC), Advanced Semiconductor Engineering (ASE) and Kinsus Interconnect Technology actually expect little revenue contributions from the shipments, the sources observed.

However, as Qualcomm's shipments to Nokia and Samsung will be carried out through the end of November, supply chain partners are likely see their fourth-quarter sales benefit from the deliveries.

Samsung has unveiled its first Mango-based smartphone, the Omnia W, which will first hit shelves in Italy at the end of October and then be available in other markets including Europe, Latin America, South East and South West Asia.

Nokia has revealed that the company is set to offer its first Mango phones in the fourth quarter.
