China on Australia's tourism hit list

   Date:2006/12/31
Chinese tourists are next on Australia's hit list when it comes to attracting business from the world's most populous nation.

China ranks fourth with 285,000 annual visitors, but Australian government hopes that number will surpass one million visitors by 2013.

As a result of rising disposable income in the coastal regions of China - in the bustling richer cities such as Shanghai, Beijing and Guangzhou - many urban Chinese are now going to Australia.

The Chinese also spent more money when in Australia than visitors from the US, UK or east Asia.

The growth in China's domestic tourism market also has created opportunities for Australian tourism operators to train their Chinese counterparts to capitalize on local tourism markets.

This is opening up export opportunities for tourism infrastructure, tourism training and management from Australia.
