Digital camera ODMs Altek and Asia Optical may not meet their 2011 shipment targets of 20 million and seven million units because Eastman Kodak has decreased its orders, according to industry sources.
Due to strong competition from Japan-based vendors in the entry- and mid-range segments, Kodak's global market share is decreasing, the sources indicated. Therefore, Kodak has reduced its ODM orders with Altek and Asia Optical, the sources said.
Altek has landed ODM orders from two new clients, Samsung Electronics and Nikon, in 2011, while Asia Optical is competing for orders from new clients including Nikon, Fujifilm and Olympus, the sources indicated.
