MSI reorganizing notebook business

   Date:2011/10/25

Micro-Star International (MSI), commenting about the recent market rumor that the company plans to shrink down its notebook business, pointed out that the company is only making some adjustments to the structure of its notebook branding and OEM business and is not shrinking or giving up the business.

In the future, for the branding business, MSI will focus on launching products for mid-range to high-end gaming markets, while it will produce some products in-house and outsource some to outside OEMs to save cost.

With several first-tier notebook brand vendors having been through significant changes, there are some rumors circulating in the IT market claiming that MSI is significantly shrinking down its notebook business size and may even quit the industry in the future with some rumors even noting there are already some MSI employees leaving the company.

Sources from PC players also noted that MSI is currently putting its focus mainly in mid-range to high-end performance and gaming markets, which contribute better gross margin and will not enter the entry-level market, which is currently seeing fierce price competition.

As for netbooks, MSI has already phased out from the industry, while the company is also turning conservative about the tablet PC market and is only pushing its WindPad 110W, which features Windows 7 with AMD's Brazos platform, but the related shipment volume is still rather low.
