Taiwan LCD TV OEM firms likely to achieve on-quarter shipment growth of 6-9%

   Date:2011/11/08

Global shipments of LCD TVs in the third quarter increased 19% on quarter, according to industry sources. Market estimates for on-quarter growth of shipments in the fourth quarter should reach 10-13%. In particular, Taiwan-based LCD TV OEM firms will likely experience a shipment increase of 6-9% on quarter in the fourth quarter and total annual shipments are likely to reach 45 million units and the region should have a 22.4% of market share.

According to Taiwan-based firm, Amtran, its October revenues increased 19.3% on month. Amtran further noted its plan to focus on large-size FPD TVs and high-end applications to accommodate the end of year holiday season in the North America market. Amtran believes fourth quarter revenues are likely to show an on-quarter increase.

However, according to research firms, the global LCD market in 2011 has been performing worse than expected. The weak economies in Europe, US and Japan have been causing global purchasing power to decrease. Firms such as Japan-based brands Sony, Panasonic, and Sharp have been facing decreased sales. Vizio also has been facing a 20% decline in sales compared to 2010.

Due to increased self-production rates of South Korea-based vendors, Taiwan's LCD TV OEM supply chain has been experiencing falling orders. In the third quarter, shipments from Taiwan-based LCD TV OEM firms decreased by 5.2% on quarter. In addition, China-based firms have been trying to gain share of the OEM market.
