Taiwan market: Thailand floods affect sales of digital camera vendors

   Date:2011/11/08

Digital camera players Nikon, Sony and Canon, impacted by the floods in Thailand, will see their sales performance in Taiwan being impacted.

Nikon, which manufactures most of its DSLR camera in Thailand, has seen its product supply being seriously impacted, a shortage of DSLR camera products such as entry-level D3100 and D5100 and high-end D7000 as well as 60% of its Nikkor lens will impact its sales from the fourth quarter of 2011 to the first quarter of 2012.

Sony's interchangeable lens cameras (MILCs) including NEX and Alpha series were the segment that has been impacted the most seriously by the floods. The company's high-end NEX 7 model, which was originally set to launch at the end of 2012, has also recently been postponed. The unstable product supply is also expected to impact the company performance during the year-end holiday.

Although Canon does not have plants in Thailand, the company's performance will still be affected due to some of the company's upstream component suppliers were impacted by the floods.
