First 7/7.5G LCD plant in China expected online by 2009

   Date:2006/12/31

China-based Shanghai SVA-NEC Liquid Crystal Display (SVA-NEC) will be the first China panel maker to invest in a seventh-generation (7G)/7.5G TFT LCD plant with the plant expected to come online in 2009 at the soonest.

SVA-NEC's 6G plant will also enter mass production in 2008. By 2010, China panel makers will produce about 500,000 glass substrates per month.

With Info Vision Optronics (IVO)'s 5G plant planning to begin volume production in December 2006, the combined monthly glass substrates China-based makers produce from their 5G plants will reach 150,000 units by year-end. The monthly output will increase to 205,000 units by 2007 amid expansion plans from SVA-NEC and Beijing BOE Optoelectronics Technology (BOE OT).

In January it is reported that SVA-NEC will invest invest US$4 billion to build a 7G LCD plant in Shanghai, with construction scheduled to finish in 2006 or at the beginning of 2007.

BOE OT and SVA-NEC are the only two China-based panel makers to have begun volume production at their 5G plants.
