BYD reportedly lands notebook order from Toshiba

   Date:2011/11/18

Market rumors recently speculated that BYD has obtained notebook orders from Toshiba, marking the China-based firm's entry into the supply chain of the global top-10 PC vendors.

However, Taiwan-based notebook ODMs are skeptical of the speculation. The makers claimed that in terms of manufacturing capability and shipment scale, BYD should not be favored over them by Toshiba, which requires a particularly high standard of quality.

BYD is currently focused on the manufacture of netbooks and tablet PCs with clients that are mainly China-based white-box companies and channel distributors, the makers indicated.

Besides, Pegatron Technology has been named the major contract partner for Toshiba in 2012, the makers revealed.

Even if the speculation is true, BYD should take only small-volume orders for entry-level models from Toshiba, the makers said. The makers added they are not worried about any potential challenge posted by BYD.
