High inventory levels of Android tablet PCs expected after year-end holidays, say Taiwan makers

   Date:2011/11/21

The global inventory volume of Android tablet PCs has been in a high level of 3-4 million units according to estimates by IDC, and the inventory problem will appear be significant after the 2011 year-end peak sales period, according to Taiwan-based supply chain makers.

The high inventory level is partly due to the launch of Kindle Fire by Amazon and Nook Tablet by Barnes & Noble, the sources indicated. Chairman Richard Lee for Inventec, the ODM of Nook Tablet, indicated that the 7-inch tablet PC has gained good market response and is expected to be selling from late 2011 to early 2012.

Another reason is that PC vendors have rested hopes on Windows 8 to be released in the third quarter of 2012 and shifted to the new operating system to develop of new tablet PC models, the sources pointed out.

To clear inventories of Android tablet PCs, several waves of price cuts are expected in the new year, the sources indicated.
