Gigabyte, MSI have not yet planned ultrabooks

   Date:2011/12/01

Micro-Star International (MSI) and Gigabyte Technology have not yet made plans for ultrabook product lines as both players are still seeing losses in their notebook businesses, according to sources from notebook players.

Benefiting from the motherboard business, MSI is still able to break even, but the company has already been adjusting the direction of the notebook business and will put most of its focus on gaming notebooks in the future.

However, the business direction has also caused MSI to lose some staff including an executive that handled marketing.

As for Gigabyte, despite the company saying it will not give up its notebook product line, so far, the company has not yet made any plans for ultrabooks and is mainly pushing its Booktop series notebooks that feature a docking station as well as several high-end gaming and entry-level models with total shipments in 2011 to be less than 300,000 units.
