Sigurd 4Q11 sales to drop 5-10%

   Date:2011/12/05

IC testing specialist Sigurd Microelectronics expects to post on-month drops in both November and December revenues. Sales are being affected by supply-chain disruptions caused by Thailand's floods, according to the company.

Market watchers anticipate Sigurd's fourth-quarter revenues will decrease 5-10% sequentially, compared with the flat growth estimated previously.

Sigurd indicated that clients are still cautious about placing orders in view of weak market conditions in Europe and the US. Meanwhile, some customer's halted operations in Thailand have interrupted Sigurd's production and shipping schedules, which are bringing down its revenues, the company said.

However, the flooding has brought Sigurd new customers looking to increase their outsourcing, the company noted. The new orders will start contributing to company revenues in 2012, it added.

The watchers speculate Sigurd has grabbed new contract orders from Japan-based IDM companies, with shipments expected to kick off around the end of March, 2012.

Sigurd reported consolidated revenues of NT$371 million (US$12.3 million) for October, up 2.5% on month. Consolidated sales for January through October 2011 totaled NT$3.79 billion, down 7.7% from a year earlier.

Sigurd mainly tests IC for consumer and wireless communication applications, with MediaTek reportedly being among its major clients.
