   Date:2011/12/06

Asustek Computer, at its global sales meeting on December 5, has set the shipment goals for its four major product lines for 2012 with notebooks and netbooks together to surpass 22 million units and the company internally expecting shipments to reach 23.8 million units, while tablet PCs will reach at least three million units with the company internally expecting the volume to reach six million units, surpassing Samsung Electronics.

In 2011, Asustek will ship 14.7 million notebooks and 4.8 netbooks and with the internal goal of shipping more than 23 million units in 2012, the company expects its ranking will surpass Dell and challenge the third largest notebook vendor worldwide. Asustek's traditional notebook shipments in 2012 are expected to reach 19.3-19.8 million units with Eee PC to continue to face a shipment decline.

As for tablet PCs, Asustek expects its shipments will reach about 1.8 million units in 2011.

For motherboards, Asustek will ship 23 million units in 2011 with the volume increasing by 5% on year to reach 24.5-25 million units in 2012. Since Asustek has already successfully expanded its gap with major competitor Gigabyte Technology, the company expects its gross margin in 2012 will remain flat.

Asustek also estimated that the company's shipments and revenues in the fourth quarter of 2011 will both achieve better-than-expected performance with revenues in 2012 to see 30% on-year growth.

As for its ranking in worldwide markets, Asustek has already surpassed Dell and Acer in China in terms of market share and is defending its position in the fourth quarter with the goal of gaining 20% market share in 2012. In the Asia Pacific market, including Japan and China, benefiting by strong growth in Indonesia, Malaysia, Turkey and Australia, Asustek currently ranks as fourth largest vendor and is aggressive expanding its share in India market hoping to surpass Dell in 2012 and become the second largest player in the market.

Asustek also expects its share in the Brazil market will see an obvious growth of 5-10% in the second half of 2012. In Europe, Asustek is currently the largest vendor in Eastern Europe and already has significantly reduced its gap with Acer in Western Europe with the overall market share surpassing Acer and become the second largest player in the market, behind Hewlett-Packard (HP) with a gap of 220,000 units.

As for the recent report that Asustek was not invited into the Windows on ARM (WOA) development project, Asustek noted that it has the strongest R&D ability among notebook vendors and is the largest client of Nvidia; therefore, the company will continue to have tight partnership with ARM-based processor makers over development of the WOA platform.
