   Date:2012/01/05

Compal Communication has announced revenues of NT$10.9 billion (US$359.65 million) for the fourth quarter of 2011 with its handset shipments in the quarter reached 1.5 million units. For the annual performance in 2011, Compal Communication achieved NT$18.3 billion in revenues with handset shipments reached 3.6 million units.

For 2012, Compal Communication chairman Ray Chen pointed out that the company's total hadset shipments will reach 9.6 million units as its clients have already started placing orders; meanwhile, since Compal Communication will turn to produce smartphone products fully, the company products' average selling price (ASP) should rise more than 20% comparing to that in 2011.

Since Microsoft has been aggressive promoting its mobile operating system platform, after the already-launched Mango, the company will launch its next-generation Tango platform in the first half of 2012 and Tango 2 platform in May or June, Chen noted.

For the first quarter of 2012, although it is the traditional slow season, since Nokia's new Windows Phone will start mass shipping, Nokia expects its handset shipments will grow 20% on quarter and continue to climb in the second and third quarters. However, its performance in the fourth quarter remains unclear currently.
