   Date:2012/01/09

Taiwan-based smartphone vendor HTC has reported consolidated revenues of NT$26.363 billion (US$870 million) for December 2011, dropping 14.80% on month and 20.32% on year.

HTC's consolidated revenues for fourth-quarter 2011 stood at NT$101.419 billion, decreasing 2.49% on year and falling short of the lowered target of NT$104.0 billion.

HTC is mulling whether to enter the low-price segment of entry- to mid-level smartphones in competition with China-based vendors including Huawei Device, ZTE and Lenovo, according to industry sources in Taiwan.

HTC's shipments of smartphones in the first quarter of 2012 will decrease from the preceding quarter but rebound in the second quarter, according to handset components makers.
