Kinko Optical 4Q11 revenues hit record

Kinko Optical, a Taiwan-based maker of optical lens pieces, generated consolidated revenues of NT$1.833 billion (US$60.5 million) in fourth-quarter 2011, a new quarterly record, according to the company.

Kinko brought in consolidated revenues of NT$578 million in December 2011, dipping 4.15% on month but rising 14.22% on year, while its 2011 consolidated revenues of NT$6.119 billion increased by 17.37% from 2011, the company indicated.

Kinko will invest NT$500 million to expand its monthly capacity to four million precision glass lens pieces, 10 million plastic lens pieces of 5.0 megapixels and above, and one million molded glass lens pieces, with the expansion to be completed in August 2012, company chairman Kent Chen said.

Canon is Kinko's largest client, accounting for 34% of its 2011 consolidated revenues. As Canon is expanding its proudction of DSLR lenses and cameras in Taiwan, Kinko will obtain more orders for glass lens pieces from Canon, with DSLR glass lens pieces expected to account for more than 50% of Kinko's 2012 consolidated revenues.

In addition to digital cameras, Kinko has obtained certification for its 5.0- and 8.0-megapixel plastic lens kits from image sensor makers and is competing for orders from vendors of notebook and tablet PCs as well as China-based handset vendors.
