China Travel Service (CTS) has announced that it will soon provide Beijing Hutong Tour packages to domestic tourists, as more and more Chinese people become interested in old Beijing's unique architecture and culture. Previously, Hutong Tours were only open to foreign tourists.
"Hutong" comes from Mongolian language, meaning "well." The cradle of old Beijing's folk culture, the numerous hutongs scattered around the capital are the remaining examples of what people's lives would have looked like in old Beijing.
CTS' Hutong Tour will take around two and a half hours. Tourists will take a tricycle rickshaw throughout the well-preserved area around Shichahai Lake, allowing them to pass through many hutongs. Including a visit to the Drum Tower, the trip will end at the Royal Garden of Prince Gong.
Chinese, English and Japanese tour guide services are available, with the price for the tour now set at around 200 yuan.
