Dow Chemical Co. expects continued growth, spurred by its joint ventures in China, President and CEO Andrew Liveris said.

"We believe that by implementing our strategy we can indeed transform our earnings profile," Liveris said. "We are much more than just a peaking commodity company," he added, hinting that the company's current stock price did not reflect its true value.

Commodity chemicals like ethylene are manufactured in bulk and have lower margins. Specialty chemicals, by comparison, are lower volume but have better profit margins.

The commodity chemicals cycle is seen by analysts as having peaked, and investors are focusing more on specialty chemical companies, which promise greater near-term growth.
