BenQ has resumed marketing of MP3 players by offering its new musiQ players in place of its original Joybee series, according to the company. The first two models of the new MP3 player series, Magic Bean and Steel Wings, will be introduced first in the China market on December 15, added the company.
Each with a magnesium-alloy casing, the Magic Bean looks like a necklace pendant and is targeted at young females, while the Steel Wing model resembles a dog tag and is marketed towards young male consumers. Each model has a built-in storage capacity of 512MB and is compatible with a Micro SD card for a total capacity of up to 1GB.
With a relatively small volume available for sale, Magic Bean and Steel Wings are intended to be market-niche models to compete with Apple Computer's iPod line and Microsoft's Zune MP3 players, BenQ pointed out. Magic Bean and Steel Wings are currently available for pre-order at 688 yuan (US$88), BenQ noted.
