The global shipment volume of LCD TVs in 2012 is forecast to grow by 8% from 2011, and China-based vendors are expected to reach a combined share of 22.2% by virtue of their dominance in the fast growing China market while South Korea-based vendors will maintain a total share of 30% and Japan-based ones' combined share will fall to 27.7%, according to industry sources in Taiwan.
As many vendors delay launch of new LCD TV models until the second quarter of 2012, the global shipment volume may drop by 24.5% in the first quarter and rise by 8.4% in the second one on quarter, the sources indicated.
Outsourced production will account for 33-34% of global shipments of LCD TVs in 2012, the sources noted. Panasonic will decrease in-house production of TV panels to 3.0-5.0 million units and increase outside supply in 2012, with procurement from Taiwan-based Chimei Innolux estimated to increase from 300,000 panels in 2011 to 3.0 million units, the sources indicated. Sharp will also reduce in-house production to 7.0-8.0 million TV panels in 2012, the sources pointed out.
The proportion of the global LCD TV shipment volume for LED-backlit ones will rise from 45% in 2011 to 70% in 2012 and that for 3D ones from 9.5% to 19.2%, the sources indicated.
