Belgian drugs, chemicals and plastics maker Solvay is eyeing alternative deals to its planned alliance in soda ash with China's Nanjing Chemical Industries (NCI).
"We are envisaging other possibilities," Chief Executive Christian Jourquin said. Solvay announced in May 2004 that it had signed a letter of mutual interest with NCI, a unit of China PetroChemical Corporation (Sinopec), to set up a joint venture for the operation of NCI's soda ash plant in Lianyungang.
Both parties at the time said they aimed at launching joint operations in 2005. Jourquin said decision-making procedures in China were taking longer than expected.
