China Initiates Trials of IT Product Pollution Control Certification

   Date:2012/04/24

China's Certification and Accreditation Administration (CNCA) and Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) have jointly issued an announcement regarding requirements and testing standards for laboratories and other bodies undertaking the work of voluntary Restrictions on Hazardous Substances (RoHS) certification. The document details standards by which laboratories will be required to assess measures adopted by enterprises to reduce or eliminate toxic and hazardous substances contained in electronic products, including all-in-one products, modules, components and parts, and basic materials. "All-in-one products" include but are not limited to TVs, computers and related products, and handsets. In an effort to incentivize enterprises to apply for voluntary pollution control certification, relevant government departments have issued a series of policies, including the promise of priority government procurement for those businesses that pass the evaluation.
