China's first CTL project could be completed by year end

China's first coal-to-liquid (CTL) project in Ordos, Inner Mongolia could go into operation by the end of the year.

The project is being developed by the largest domestic coal producer, the Shenhua Group.  RMB 4.3 billion ($552.70 million) has already been spent on the project. This direct CTL project started construction in August 2004, and costs will eventually reach RMB 10 billion ($1.29 billion).  After it is completed, it will be capable of producing 1.08 million tons of oil products every year.

Once the pilot project is completed, Shenhua will begin constructing a new plant with an aggregate annual production capacity of 6 million tons will be build over two phases, the company said.
