Although Chi Mei Optoelectronics (CMO) missed its LCD TV panel shipment target for 2006, the company stated it is positive about its outlook for this year and aims to increase its TV panel shipments 45% to 13.3 million units. CMO estimates that the global LCD TV will soar more than 60% to 75 million units in 2007, with LCD TV panel shipments topping 80 million units.

CMO shipped 9.2 million LCD TV panels in 2006, grabbing 17% of the global TV panel market, said the company. The shipments were below its original forecast of 10 million units the company set earlier in 2006 due to intensive TV panel price competition.

CMO president Chao-yang Ho said the company's TV panel shipments totaled 2.6 million units in the fourth quarter of 2006. The TV panel sales contribution dropped to 42% during the period, down from 44% in the third quarter amid strong competition in the TV market.

For this year, the shipment proportion of 32-inch LCD TV panels will still account for one third of CMO's overall TV panels shipments, noted the company. The company also expects 26-inch TN panel will replace 21-, 22-inch CRT TVs in the China market.

CMO shipped 16.7 million LCD monitor panels in 2006, accounting for 11% of th e worldwide market. The company expects to deliver 22 million units this year. In the notebook market, CMO aims to increase its shipments 29% to eight million units in 2007, the panel maker projected.
