Foxconn seeks site for Czech LCD plant

   Date:2007/04/09

Foxconn Electronics (the trade name of Hon Hai Precision Industry) is seeking a site to build its second LCD display factory in the Czech Republic.

Jim Chang, chief of Foxconn Czech Republic said the company may invest less than US$70 million, or more than US$100 million, in the factory, which would employ 5,000 people.

Construction of the plant is already under way. In February, Innolux said it plans to set up a plant in Czech Republic this year, with the plant to produce LCD monitors initially. The company also stated it will add LCD TV manufacturing to the plant later on. Innolux is also considering building plants in Russia, India and Vietnam in 2008, the company indicated.

Czech Republic recently became a popular site for LCD display makers, as the Czech government offers a ten-year tax-free policy for the foreign companies that invest over US$100 million in the country.
