China to Speed up Tourism Industry Development

Shao Qiwei, director of China's National Tourism Administration, at the "2007 China (Qingdao) International Olympics & Tourism Forum" held in Qingdao, said that China's National Tourism Administration will look at Olympic tourism as an important opportunity to promote the development of China's tourism industry during this new period and stage, to promote the development of China's tourism industry, and to provide support for the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games.

During the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games, there will be an attendance of 16,000 participants and entourage officials, approximately 5,000 Olympic members, 7,000 sponsors and their guests. More than 21,600 registered media will cover and report the Olympic Games. In addition, millions of foreign and national tourists are expected to come to Beijing to watch the Olympic Games, as well as visit Beijing's scenic spots and historical sites. According to the experiences gathered from all previous Olympic Games, it is predicted that while people participate in and watch the Beijing Olympic Games, they will also visit tourist attractions around Beijing and other famous scenic spots all over China. This, in turn, will lead to an increase in the income of the tourist industry.
