THE city's upscale hotels will undergo a price rise of 20 to 30 percent in September, according to a survey carried out by Ctrip.com, the country's main online tour agency.

For example, the five-star Grand Hyatt Pudong New Area requires 3,105 yuan (US$410) a night for its Grand River View Room, about 630 yuan higher than the end of August.

The standard double room in the five-star Hilton will costs about 2,000 yuan a night from September. The price now is about 1,250 yuan.

Prices rise because of increasing business and exhibition activities, said Ctrip.

"The rooms will be tight, especially at the hotels around exhibition sites," said Kelvin Dai, public relation manager of the company. "For instance, the Shanghai Marriott Hotel Hongqiao has no rooms available from September 3 to 6."

"Relatively, the price of economic hotels won't change much."

In fact, room prices in some traveling destinations will drop due to the end of the summer traveling peak.

A case in point is the four-star Haiqing Hotel in Qingdao which will require 360 yuan for its standard double room, 40 yuan less than in August, said Ctrip.
