Home Inns & Hotels Management Inc, one of China's biggest budget hotel operators, is considering expanding outside mainland China, mostly in Asia, within two to three years, its chief financial officer said on Thursday.

"Our customers ... are by and large domestic business travellers. They are travelling overseas. We want to be where they travel to," May Wu told reporters in Shanghai.

Home Inns is looking at a number of possibilities overseas and the first step will be Asian destinations, Wu said, although she gave no further details.

On the domestic front, the budget hotel operator is also targeting an increase in its market share in China's budget hotel sector to more than 30 percent within five years from 20 to 25 percent at present, Wu said.

It will quadruple its number of outlets to 1,000 in three to five years.

To get there, Home Inns, which in October announced the acquisition of rival Top Star in a 340 million yuan ($45.6 million) deal, would consider more acquisitions while growing organically.

"Top Star is one big step and a big milestone for us. We would continue on this path when the right opportunity presents itself," Wu said.

She added that Home Inns needed additional financing to fuel its expansion, but declined to discuss details.
