Vee TIME, a WiMAX operator in southern Taiwan, has proposed a 100% buy-out of Vmax Telecom, a fellow company operating in northern Taiwan, at NT$1.45 billion (US$49.2 million), with the proposal being examined by the National Communications Commission (NCC), according to Vee TIME.
Vee TIME indicated Vmax's operation will remain independent after the acquisition.
Local WiMAX players are eager to see whether the NCC will approve a consolidation of the sector. Global Mobile, another WiMAX operator in northern Taiwan, also has plans to acquire fellow Tatung InfoComm in the south, industry sources said.
