Gasgoo.com (Shanghai September 29) - Sources from FAW-Volkswagen confirmed that the Seat brand would fall under their joint venture's jurisdiction, and that they are currently awaiting certification, the Beijing Times reported today. Additionally, FAW-VW's upcoming Foshan, Guangdong factory would be Seat's production site in China.
There are reportedly still several market details that have yet to be cleared out regarding the Spanish brand's coming to China. Some in the industry speculate that FAW-VW is currently gauging the Chinese market, including researching consumer tastes and measuring market conditions, to see which Seat vehicles should be brought over.
Both the Seat Ibiza (pictured above) and Leon (pictured below) made their Chinese debut at this year's Auto Shanghai 2011 car exhibition, with Seat confirming that both cars would be imported in the next two years. Reportedly, company officials are discussing how best to accentuate the brand's Spanish charm in China.
FAW-VW's Foshan factory will be completed in 2013, and will be responsible for production of the seventh generation Golf and Audi A3, among other vehicles. Interestingly, the Seat Leon is built on the same platform as the Golf.
