Carrefour announced its entry into Acheng District, Harbin of China’s northeastern Heilongjiang Province and held a signing ceremony at Shangri-La hotel Harbin, China. It is the first foreign-funded supermarket in Acheng District and is slated to open in 2013.
Carrefour has over 200 stores in the whole country since it started business in China in 1995 and has made its presence in Daqing and Mudanjiang, besides Harbin in Heilongjiang Province. Carrefour made its first step in Heilongjiang market in 2002 and plans to open another three stores next year in cities like Qingdong, Pingfang, Acheng or Qunli. It is also seeking location in Songbei District, Harbin to open another store and to better serve Harbin people.
Carrefour also plans to invest 2 million yuan to build a food testing laboratory, which can give quick tests concerning clenbuterol and pesticide residues and other contents of products before their sales, a step that will ensure food safety.
