Nokia is producing Windows Phone 7.5 smart phones for China Mobile’s 3G network using the TD-SCDMA standard. Nokia is producing Windows Phone 7.5 smart phones for the Chinese market, according to Colin Giles, Global Head of Sales at Nokia. The smart phones will operate on China Mobile’s 3G network using the TD-SCDMA standard.
China Mobile is the world’s largest mobile operator and has more than 600 million users, the majority of which are still using the company’s GSM network. China Mobile is the only major operator whose 3G network is based on TD-SCDMA technology developed in China.
China Mobile currently has only about 40 million 3G subscribers and analysts expect to see strong competition in 2012 for China Mobile’s new TD-SCDMA customers. Thanks to the national coverage of its network, China Mobile also has 9.5 million I Phone users as its customers.
According to Analysis International, Nokia had a 22% share of China‘s smart phone market in the first quarter of 2011. Samsung had a 18.1% market share and Motorola 12.9%.
