Gasgoo.com (Shanghai November 22) - With the Guangzhou International Motor Show fast approaching, Changan Ford has officially announced its engine production plans for the Twelfth Five Year Guideline, a national economic directive lasting from 2011 to 2015. According to areport on morning.sc.cn, Changan Ford will bring over 20 brand new engine and transmission types before 2015, with the aim of improving the quality of its model lineup.
Among its planned offerings, the JV will be bringing over several engines from the Ford Ecoboost series, which promise 20 percent better efficiency and reduced emissions. Changan Ford also plans to release a brand new six-speed variable transmission to better accommodate the unique needs of Chinese drivers. The new transmission will become the new standard for the JV's vehicles.
News of the new engine and transmission options comes following Changan Ford's announcing the release of 15 new models before 2015. The JV hopes to use these new models to expand its coverage to markets it has little to no presence in.
Changan Ford Mazda's second factory in Chongqing will begin production in 2012, with the new generation Focus to be its first product. Meanwhile, Changan Ford will continue to expand its dealer network, with plans to have 680 outlets in operation by 2015.
