Gemtek Technology, which makes wireless broadband networking/communication devices, aims to reach consolidated revenues of NT$30 billion (US$1 billion) in 2012, growing 7.1% from an estimated NT$28 billion for 2011, company chairman and president Howard Chen has told an investors conference.
Long Term Evolution (LTE) will be the major source of potential business opportunities for Gemtek over the next five years, and Gemtek has begun small-volume shipments of LTE devices in late 2011, Chen indicated. However, demand for WiMAX products is expected to be growing, especially in emerging markets, Chen said, adding Gemtek will ship an estimated 1.2 million WiMAX devices in 2011 and forecasts shipments of 1.5 million units in 2012.
In 2012, Gemtek will focus on new product lines including OTT (over the top) set-top boxes (STBs) and GPON (gigabit passive optical network).
