The follow-up development and utilization of the Word Expo Park has been of concern after the end of the Shanghai 2010 World Expo.
Feng Jingming, Director of Shanghai Municipal Administration of Planning and Land Resources, said on Dec. 12 that the World Expo park will create a "world-class landmark" and provide cultural expo creativity, headquarters business, high-end exhibition, tourism and leisure, ecological livableness and other dominant functions in order to build a landmark municipal public activity center.
In accordance with the deployment requirements for the overall development of the two banks of Huangpu River, the World Expo park is designed to form an overall layout structure of "five areas and one belt," namely, the Urban Best Practices Area and the Culture Expo Area at Puxi District, International Community Area, Conference and Exhibition Area and Houtan Development Area at Pudong District, and Binjiang Ecological Leisure Landscape Belt.
The Conference and Exhibition Area at Puxi District mainly relies on and reserves the "one axis and four pavilions" large urban public facilities and integrates conference, exhibition, business, culture, leisure, hotel, apartment and other functions, in order to create an international urban central business district.
The follow-up utilization of the World Expo Park will pay special attention to cultural functions while considering commercial effects. At Puxi District, large cultural expo facilities will be converged according to the area planning and the requirements of the International Culture Exchange Center, so as to establish a citizen-oriented expo cultural creativity convergence area leading the municipal cultural development.
Feng Jingming said Shanghai will learn from the advanced construction concepts and successful construction experience of international metropolises in its next-step urban and rural planning to make due contributions to the metropolitan transformation development of Shanghai.
