Construction of the Chongqing-based Lianglu Cuntan Bonded Port Area, China’s only inland bonded port area, was completely finished on Dec. 14.
Construction of supporting facilities in its 30-square-kilometer airport will be accelerated to meet the needs of original design manufacturers and related companies. Local authorities plan to develop the port area into a large-scale bonded laptop production and logistics base with an annual output of at least 50 million laptops and an annual foreign trade volume of at least 20 billion U.S. dollars.
After the phase-1 project of the Lianglu Cuntan Bonded Port Area passed the central government’s acceptance test on May 11, 2010, a large number of famous enterprises, such as Acer, Compal Electronics, Wistron Group and Xushuo Technology Company, quickly set up factories in the port area.
Since the beginning of the year, the customs at the Cuntan bonded port area have handled imported and exported products nearly 75,760 times, and the number of heavy foreign trade containers moving through the port area has reached over 284,740 twenty-foot equivalent units, up more than 100 percent from the same period of last year.
There will be more than 170 companies and projects in the bonded area by the end of the year, including 11 Fortune 500 companies, such as Hewlett-Packard, Isuzu Motors, Itochu Cooperation and Compal Electronics.
