State Chief Veterinary Officer Yu Kangzhen met with visiting counterpart Christianne Bruschke of Dutch Ministry of Economic Affairs, Agriculture and Innovation on December 19. The two sides exchanged views on deepening veterinary cooperation.

Yu spoke highly of China-Netherlands veterinary cooperation. He stated that under China-Netherlands High-Level Agricultural Working Group Meeting Mechanism, veterinary authorities have held regular meetings to communicate and coordinate on issues of common interests, which facilitated sound veterinary cooperation.

He put forward four suggestions for deepening veterinary cooperation ahead.

First, enhance information exchanges on animal diseases by timely notification of major outbreaks and sharing control policies, experience and practices.

Second, strengthen cooperation within OIE and CAC framework, which is mutually beneficial and conducive to global animal health and food safety.

Third, increase personnel exchanges in disease prevention and control and development of animal health laws and regulations.

Fourth, reinforce cooperation in veterinary science and technology such as disease diagnosis, and veterinary drug R&D and quality control.

Bruschke expressed full consent and willingness to expand veterinary science and technology cooperation with China. The two sides would increase personnel exchange and work closely within framework of international organizations to make cooperation more fruitful.

Officials from Department of International Cooperation and Veterinary Bureau attended the meeting.
